SUMMARY -
Elite Gamer was a revolutionary new internal speed routing and monitoring software that would directly result in an increase in ping (speed) while simultaneously reducing lag spikes by up to 32%. This feature was to be marketed as a free up-sell to any Panoramic Wifi service purchase and targeted specifically at the gaming community & young(er) adults.
GOALS -
Create a new, visually engaging page to educate and sell Cox.com’s new internet speed feature, Elite Gamer, while utilizing our existing component library. We were also allotted no additional dev effort or time, so we had to work creatively within our scoped timeline.
CHALLENGES AND SOLUTIONS -
We wanted to give this new feature a fresh, clean, and modern look that gamers could connect with and be drawn to. This was achieved by leveraging under-utilizing brand style guides to convey a techie look and feel to the page. Styling our components and content blocks with darker coloring, contrasting text colors, and honeycomb overlay texturing achieved a futuristic and techie vibe.
COMPETITOR AND MARKET RESEARCH -
Fortunately for Cox.com and our team, there really were no direct competitors with a software package anything like Elite Gamer. This was both a pro and a con in the sense that we had complete freedom to visualize & market this revolutionary new feature, but also left us searching to find & conceptualize visuals that gamers would relate to and gravitate towards.
We took a look at a few big players within the internet market that offered higher speed services and connections like Google, Xfinity, & Verizon; as well as a couple of gaming platform services like Steam and PlayStation.
