SUMMARY -

Enhance and modernize Walgreens’s MVP COVID-19 vaccine scheduling tool.

GOALS -

Our primary goal was to create a questionnaire that captured several points of information from patients during their initial appointment scheduling. This would eliminate the need for patients to spend extra time filling out paperwork in person at stores or vaccination sites.

Secondly, and simultaneously, we aimed to eliminate the need for the additional clerical work performed by Walgreens employees due to all of the in-person paperwork needed from patients.

By completing those two main objectives, it was also hypothesized that there would be a natural increase in the daily volume of vaccine availability and doses being administered in communities all over the country!

CHALLENGES -

Throughout the project, we encountered constant update requirements, as well as the removal of requirements, due to ever-changing information from the CDC and government health organizations, our corporate clerical requirements, our internal legal department, and our external development team.

COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS & FINDINGS -

We took a look at competitors that were participating in COVID-19 vaccinations such as CVS, Jewel-Osco, Walmart, and Meijer to see if they were utilizing this style of scheduling, and if so, their methodology for capturing the various points of customer information.

We found that of the 4 participating competitors we researched, all but one included an enhanced questionnaire to capture the additional patient information. We also determined that the best practice for our team would be to create a step-by-step, guided process and to use radio buttons for static choices & dropdowns for dynamic choices.

We also wanted to ensure that we created this enhancement to be somewhat future-proofed, so we could easily incorporate any additional enhancements or other vaccine upsells (flu, shingles, tetanus, measles, etc.) down the line.

ENHANCEMENT FLOW -

We designed our flow based on both the findings of the competitive analysis, as well as leveraging previously researched and existing Walgreens online questionnaires.

VISUAL DESIGNS -

We leveraged a number of existing components and layouts from previously developed questionnaires and surveys. This allowed us to jump straight into component-based UI, as this project was put on an expedited timeline for obvious public health reasons.
